SNAG NUTRITION

The final stretch of the SNAG (Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships 2026) is upon us, and the margins between a new personal best and hitting the wall early are razor-thin.

In a high-stakes meet, what you put in your tank is just as important as the hours you've invested in the pool. To make sure you’re fully fuelled and firing on all cylinders throughout, here are my top five performance nutrition tips:

1. Plan your Meals and Snack Timing

Master Your Timing - Don't leave your nutrition to chance. Map out your meals and snacks around your race times to avoid competing on a heavy stomach or an empty tank.

2. Eat Breakfast

Never Skip Breakfast - The engine needs fuel to start. A proper, carbohydrate-rich morning meal with some protein and fluids sets you up for a successful day of racing from start to finish!

3. Snack Between Races

Top Up Between Races - When the turnaround is tight, quick, easily digestible snacks between races are crucial for maintaining those vital fuel stores so that you can keep swimming fast

4. Recovery Meal within 60mins of Last Race

The 60-Minute Recovery Window - Your race isn't truly over until you refuel. Get a solid, protein-and-carb recovery meal in within an hour of your final swim to kickstart muscle repair and prep your body for the next day.

5. Always Stay Hydrated

Hydration is King - Being submerged masks exactly how much you sweat. Keep sipping on fluids throughout the day —dehydration kills your performance

Never forget: your nutrition plan is the vital third pillar alongside your strength conditioning and recovery programming. Believe in yourself and give it everything you've got out there.

All the very best, swimmers!
